Suppose the three departmental switches in Figure 5.15 are replaced by hubs. All links are 100 Mbps. Now answer the questions posed in problem P23.

Answer

If the switch is replaced with a hub the the network as follows:

  • Each departmental hub performances as a single collision domain.
  • From given data, the capacity of each link=100 Mbps. So, all hub maximum throughput of 100 Mbps.
  • The network links are connecting the  web servers and the mail server
  • Totally 5 devices used that are he three collision domains, web server and mail server with maximum rate of 100 Mbps.
  • Thus, the total aggregate throughput: (5100)= 500 Mbps that is, and it can be achieved among the 11 end systems.
