Why are acknowledgments used in 802.11 but not in wired Ethernet?

Answer

  • The 802.11  MAC protocol used acknowledgment due to high bit error rate.
  • For example, if a data packet transfer from one frame to another frame,then data packet may be reach or not destination frame in the wireless  802.11 LAN.
  • Where as using wired Ethernet to transfer data through wired is very reliable.
  • Thus, wired Ethernet contains less error rate.
  • So, acknowledgments used in 802.11 but not in wired Ethernet.
