Question

What does a break statement do? Where is it legal to put a break statement?

TextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbook

Answer

A break statement is used to exit a loop (a while, do-while, or for statement) or to terminate a case in a switch statement.

  • A break is not legal anywhere else in a C++ program.

  • Note that if the loops are nested, a break statement only terminates one level of the loop.
