Question

20. Which flip-flop gives a true representation of computer memory?

TextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbookTextbook

Answer

A Data flip-flip (D flip-flop) is a true representation of computer memory, because the output of D flip-flop is same as the input whenever the clock signal is high.

Characteristic table of a D flip-flop:

Input D

Output Q

0

0

1

1

  • If the input 0 is applied at the input with the pulsed clock, then the output is 0.
  • If the input 1 is applied at the input with the pulsed clock, then the output is 1.

The output Q represents the present state of the input of the circuit. The D flip-flop stores current value of the input therefore, it represents the physical computer memory.
