Question

Suppose an analog audio signal is sampled 16,000 times per second, and each sample is quantized into one of 1024 levels. What would be the resulting bit rate of the PCM digital audio signal?

Answer

The number of times an analog audio signal is sampled per second =16000

The number of levels to quantized each sample =1024=2^10.

This means that 10bits is required per sample.

The resulting bit rate of the PCM digital audio signal = 16000 * 10

                                                                            =160000

                                                                            =160kbps
